Household Hazardous Waste/U-Waste Collection Event – October 30
The City of Tustin in partnership with CR&R will be hosting a Household Hazardous Waste and Universal Waste Collection event for Tustin residents on October 30, 2010. The event will be held at the Main Street Water Facility at 235 E. Main Street in Tustin from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please be prepared to show a valid driver’s license as proof of residency.
Household Hazardous Waste items that will be collected at this event include:
Latex-based Paint •Used Motor Oil • Motor Oil Filers
E-waste items that will be collected at this event include: Televisions • Computer Monitors,Keyboards, CPUs, Printers
U-waste items that will be collected at this event include:Batteries • Fluorescent Tubes and Bulbs
Items you CANNOT bring to this HHW/U-Waste collection:
• Explosives
• Ammunition
• Controlled Substances
• Radioactive Materials
• White Goods (appliances)
• Tires
• Business Waste
• Chemicals, Pesticides
• Gasoline
• Medical Waste/Sharps
• Pharmaceuticals
• Propane
• Trash
• Antifreeze
• Car Batteries
• Paint Thinner
• Spray Paint
• Lacquer
• Solvents
How should you prepare?
• Bring the items you wish to dispose of in a sturdy box preferably in their original, labeled containers. Be prepared to leave your containers. Because of permitting requirements, some items such as paint cans may not be returned.
• Do not EVER mix products together.
• It is ILLEGAL to transport more than 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste in your personal vehicle.
• Broken bulbs/tubes will not be collected
• No more than five (5) E-waste items per customer will be collected
It is illegal to dispose of hazardous waste in CR&R containers. Collection events and collection centers are a safe and convenient way to discard unwanted Household Hazardous Wastes. Household Hazardous Wastes (HHW) are home, electronic, car and yard care products that are flammable, corrosive, reactive or toxic. They are dangerous to the public and the environment. Examples include:
• Paints
• Used Motor Oil
• Antifreeze
• Medical Waste/Sharps
• Cleaning Products
• Propane
• Pesticides
• Pool Chemicals
• Pharmaceuticals
Electronic waste and Universal waste are not permitted to be disposed of in CR&R containers. Electronic waste (E-waste) includes televisions, computer monitors and CPUs, keyboards, printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, VCRs, DVD/CD/tape players, cell phones, microwaves, irons, stereos, speakers, cables, and all other corded appliances and corded devices. Universal waste (U-waste) items include batteries, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, mercury thermostats and thermometers, and aerosol cans that contain hazardous materials.
