ORLAND PARK POLICE INVESTIGATE SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE

On August 20, 2010 at 6:08 p.m., the Orland Park Police responded to the Chase Bank located at 151st and LaGrange Rd. in reference to a telephone call from an unknown person concerning a suspicious package left outside the business and behind a nearby landscape bush.

First responding police officers arrived on scene and located a brief case lying on the ground behind a bush on the north side of the west entranceway to the business. An immediate evacuation of the financial institution along with nearby businesses was conducted in an orderly and safe fashion without further incident. After establishing a secure perimeter, the Cook County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad was notified.

Upon arrival, the Cook County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad deployed a specifically trained bomb detection K-9. Detecting NO bomb making material inside the brief case or in the nearby area, the bomb squad rendered the suspicious package safe. The brief case did not contain any items that would have placed the public at risk. The Orland Park Police Department is continuing the investigation into this matter with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
