Elgin, IL Police Department
Wednesday August 11th, 2010 :: 01:50 p.m. CDT

The Elgin Police will be hosting a 3 week Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class starting in September.

The City of Elgin Police Department will host a C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) class beginning Tuesday, September 14, 2010 through Thursday, September 30, 2010. The classes will be held at the Elgin Police Department at 151 Douglas Ave. in the 2nd floor training room. Each class will be from 6:00 pm through 9:00 pm. C.E.R.T. classes will be held on the following dates:

Tuesday September 14
Thursday September 16
Tuesday September 21
Thursday September 23
Tuesday September 28
Thursday September 30

This CERT class offers education and training to citizens wishing to effectively respond to emergencies in the home, school, work place, neighborhood or any disaster within the community. If a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the community’s professional response, CERT members can assist others by applying the basic response and organizational skills that are taught during training. These skills can help save and sustain lives following disaster until help arrives.
It is critical that emergency preparedness become a priority in our city, which is why the City of Elgin has formed a C.E.R.T. Citizens Corps Council made up of citizens volunteering to help in the event of disaster.
