Shooting victim in South East Modesto has been Identified

The victim in Thursdays shooting in the 200 block of Carmallita Way, has been identified as 22-year-old Daniel Mendez of Modesto

On June 18th 2009, police responded to the 200 block of Carmallita Way for a report of a male shot in the roadway. Officers arrived and located Mendez deceased in the street. Mendez appears to have been the victim of multiple gunshot wounds.

Homicide Detectives as well as Crime Scene Investigators worked through the night contacting witness and processing the crime scene. During the investigation Detectives were able to determine that the suspects in this crime were two Hispanic male adults driving a blue 4-door sedan type vehicle.

Detectives have not been able to rule out the possibility that this homicide was gang related. Detectives were unable to determine if there is any possible relationship between Mendez and the suspects at this time

Carmallita Way sits within a residential area of southeast Modesto between Haddon and San Ignacio. At this time the roadway has been re-open to normal traffic.

Detectives are continuing their investigation and are making all attempts to identify the person’s responsible.
