Media Release

The Hawai'i Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a man responsible for a series of thefts.

South Hilo patrol officers are investigating financial crimes in which the victim reported that unknown suspects apparently stole a newly-issued debit card and used it at various locations in East Hawai'i -- including an automated teller machine, a gas station, and a retail store -- to steal money from the victim's account.

During the investigation, police recovered video surveillance from the establishments, including still photos depicting the suspect.

He is described as possibly in his mid 20s to early 30s, possibly between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9, with a thin build and a tan complexion. He was wearing a dark baseball cap and a light shirt that appears to say, "I Have No Off Button."

Police ask that anyone with information on his identity call Officer Jo Aoki at 961-2213 or the Police Department's non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers in Hilo at 961-8300 or Kona at 329-8181. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
