BOXBOROUGH POLICE NAB HIT AND RUN DRIVER

BOXBOROUGH, MA – On Sunday July 25 at 2:45PM, Boxborough Police officers were dispatched to the Brook Village condominium complex for a report of a hit-and-run crash.

Sgt. Nicholas DiMauro and Patrolman Brett Pelley spoke with a witness to the crash. She told them that a black Toyota Camry turned onto Swanson Court from Swanson Rd. and that the car crashed into a stop sign. The stop sign became wedged under the car and the driver continued into the parking lot.

The witness was able to give the officers a description of the driver and pointed out the involved vehicle, which was parked in front of 41 Spencer Rd, unoccupied. The officers determined that the car belonged to a resident of that building. The stop sign and post were found discarded in a wooded area. It appeared that the sign had been dragged along the pavement.
They located the owner, who admitted that she had struck the stop sign. They detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. They also noticed that her eyes were red and glassy and she had great difficulty in maintaining her balance. They asked the woman to take field sobriety tests, but she declined.
The officers arrested Cynthia KLIPPEL, 50, of 41 Spencer Rd. # 20 and charged her with leaving the scene of a property damage crash and operating under the influence of liquor, 3rd OFFENSE. She was transported to the police station and booked. KLIPPEL took a breath test. The results were 0.28%, which is over three times the legal limit of .08%. She was later released to a sober adult. KLIPPEL will be arraigned in Ayer District Court on Monday, July 26th.
