Southern Pines Police Department
Announces:

CRIME ALERT – Larcenies to Vehicles

The Southern Pines Police Department would like to call to your attention several incidents which occurred between June 27, 2010 and June 28, 2010 in the Town of Southern Pines. During the late evening hours of June 27, 2010, in the Sandhurst neighborhood of Southern Pines, several unlocked vehicles were entered; compact disks and DVD players were stolen. One resident reported
being awakened at 3:00am and seeing the suspect in his vehicle. The resident reported that the suspect fled in a waiting vehicle. The thefts occurred on the following streets: Tingley Court, W. Hedgelawn Way, Canterbury Road, Fox Hunt Lane, and Cliff Court. The Southern Pines Police Department is seeking the assistance of the community in developing leads in these active investigations. In the event any member of the community has any information we are requesting you contact the Southern Pines Police Department at 692-7031. Information can be provided anonymously if preferred. In each larceny incident in the Sandhurst neighborhood, the vehicles were unlocked and valuables were left in the vehicle. To decrease the likelihood of being the victim of a vehicle larceny we ask you consider following the following precautions;

Prevention

 Close windows and lock your vehicle anytime you leave it unattended.
 Place valuables you must leave in your car out of sight - preferably in your trunk.
 Park in areas with pedestrian traffic if possible. Avoid dark, secluded areas.
 Auto burglar alarms are available. Advertise the fact that you have one if you do. (i.e.: window decals)
 Stereos, DVD players, cellular phones, GPS units –“prime targets” - should be out of sight when
parked. Purchase removable brackets which allow you to remove these items and lock them in the trunk or take them with you.
 Locking gas caps should be installed to prevent theft or vandalism.
 Cars with outside opening hoods should be secured with a lock.
 Keep an inventory of all accessories and items with serial numbers for identification.
 Do not hesitate to report suspicious persons in or around parked vehicles.
