Public Safety Expo is for children and adults alike at Jorgenson Park Saturday, June 26th 10-3

NAME OF EVENT: 5th Annual Gunnison Valley Public Safety Expo 2010

WHEN: Saturday, June 26, 2010 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

WHERE: Jorgenson Park 411 E. Tomichi Ave (Highway 50)

WHY: The Expo is an educational opportunity for children and adults alike. Area, State and Federal public safety agencies will be offering preparedness and safety information, as well as conducting skills demonstrations.

Special Guest this year is the Kiwanis Club, EMS and Gunnison Valley Health sponsored Junglemobile program from The Children’s Hospital! They host numerous stations including Helmet Safety, ATV Safety, Fire Safety, Poison Prevention, Farm/Ranch Safety and more. (http://www.thechildrenshospital.org/junglemobile/index.aspx).

Equipment displays will include fire trucks, ambulances, police vehicles, specialty vehicles, helicopters to name a few.

Lunch will be available for purchase with all proceeds going to the Gunnison County Country Clovers 4-H Club (http://www.gunnison.colostate.edu/4h/4h.shtml).

Information about personal emergency planning and preparedness to include information about subscriptions to community service notification systems nixle and intrado will be available. These communication tools help notify residents about up-to-the-minute alerts, advisories, or other important community-related information.

A local chapter of the Medical Reserves Corps is currently recruiting community members to register for volunteer service. The mission of the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is to improve the health and safety of communities across the country by organizing and utilizing public health, medical and other volunteers. Practicing, retired, or otherwise employed medical professionals, such as doctors, nurses, emergency medical technicians, pharmacists, nurses' assistants, public health professionals and others are encouraged to participate. Community members without medical training can assist with administrative and other essential support functions are also needed (https://covolunteers.state.co.us/VolunteerMobilizer/).
