San Juan County is on Facebook and Twitter

San Juan County, NM -- San Juan County recently launched Facebook and Twitter pages to provide another method for public and media to receive important updates about local government activities. Residents that want to stay in the loop of the latest happenings in San Juan County Government, now have the option to become friends and followers on San Juan County’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Interested individuals can find San Juan County on Facebook by going to and typing in “San Juan County Government, NM ~ Building a Stronger Community” in the search box at the top of the page. You can find San Juan County on Twitter by going to Links to Facebook and Twitter will also soon be posted on the County’s homepage.

“Social networking has become a primary tool for people to receive news and stay updated on the activities of their friends, colleagues, and personal interests,” said Keith Johns, San Juan County Executive Officer. “San Juan County has joined the social networking community by creating pages on both Facebook and Twitter. I encourage everyone to become a fan and follower.”

Facebook, a social utility that connects friends, co-workers and those that live and work, around one another, requires interested residents to become members of the social network to view detailed information on San Juan County Government’s Facebook page. Twitter, offers residents a quick way to find out what is happening with San Juan County Government and communicate with other followers. Residents interested in following San Juan County Government on Twitter must become members of the social network.

“We are finding that our residents as well as the media want to get the facts fast and have access to these facts at their finger tips as much as possible,” continued Johns. “These social networking tools allow us to creatively reach our residents and share valuable information regarding our events and services for our internal and external customers.”

Johns went on to explain that the County’s Public Information Office will maintain the content for these sites. Staff will post press releases, general information about upcoming meetings, events and meetings, and photos on Facebook. Twitter will be used to provide updates on meetings, events, emergency situations, and public meetings.

Much of the information can be found on the County’s official Web site at You may also visit the San Juan County website to subscribe to receive news releases and emergency information announcements via e-mail.

The County is currently using Nixle as its primary community networking application. It is a free information exchange medium that provides communities throughout the country with news and information that is both proximate and personally relevant.
