Two Local Children to be Honored as Bergen County “Sheriffs for a Day”

WHAT: On Thursday, June 17, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office will host a morning of activities for two local children as part of the BCSO’s “Sheriff for a Day” Program.

The program provides children with chronic health conditions the opportunity to receive a behind the scenes look at the inner workings of the Sheriff’s Office.

The BCSO tomorrow will honor 10-year-old Matthew Frohnapfel from Paramus, who has Leukemia, and 9-year-old Tyler Banuls of Lyndhurst, who is autistic. Before being sworn in as Sheriffs, Matthew and Tyler will receive their very own Sheriff’s uniforms and have breakfast with the BCSO’s command staff.

They will also be recognized at their schools, go horseback riding with the BCSO’s Mounted Unit and see a demonstration by the BCSO’s K-9 Unit. At the conclusion of the day, the boys will be honored during a send-off ceremony at the Bergen County Justice Center.
