The Crescent Township police is releasing information about a recent crime/crime activity near your address.

On June 5, 2010, a resident of Crescent Township received a letter stating they had won "The Lotto North American and London Sweepstatkes Lottery". The letter goes on to say the resident won $125,000.00 dollars. Attached to the letter is a check for $3,980.00 dollars. The letter further says the "winner" needs to send $2,980.00 dollars for government taxes. The letter requests the "winner" send a Western Union telegram for the payment of these taxes. The scam is when you call the number the provide, they want you to send the telegram to pay the taxes. Then they tell you after you send the telegram you may cash the check. However, the check does not clear and you now lost $2,980.00 dollars. DO NOT send anyone money even if they have said you won money. If you ever received a letter of this nature, report it immediately.

If you have information to report that could help lead to an arrest in this crime/crime activity, please contact police.
