CITY OF ROCKFORD ANNOUNCES“SIX WEEKS OF SUMMER” YOUTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Rockford – June 10, 2010- The City of Rockford Human Services Department, in partnership with the United Way of Rock River Valley, announces the launch of the new “Six Weeks of Summer” program.

This program invites high school youth (ages 14-17) from Winnebago and Boone counties to volunteer at least one week of their summer to help local non-profit and community organizations. The program will run from June 21, 2010 to August 6, 2010.

By participating in this program, local youth will learn that we are all responsible for the well-being of our communities. They will gain valuable work experience, learn teamwork, and feel the satisfaction in knowing they are providing needed services to local nonprofits during an often uncertain time in our economy. Participating youth will also be eligible to earn prizes, gift cards, receive letters of recommendation and more.

Youth interested in participating can find application forms and search for service opportunities on the city website at www.rockfordil.gov . Applications will be taken until June 18, 2010. For more information, contact the City of Rockford Human Services Department at 815-987-5686.

“Six Weeks of Summer” is funded by the City of Rockford Human Services Department through the Community Services Block Grant, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
