CITY OF ROCKFORD AWARDS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS TO REGIONAL ACCESS MOBILIZATION
ROCKFORD – June 7, 2008 – Monday evening’s Council proceedings saw the approval of $30,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to the Regional Access Mobilization Project (RAMP). Located at 212 Market Street, RAMP is a state designated Center for Independent Living (CIL) serving the disability population of the greater Rockford area and much of Winnebago County.
The CDBG funding provided to RAMP will enable the center to continue to facilitate a very successful program that constructs accessibility ramps on the dwelling units of mobility challenged, low income, Rockford residents.
RAMP estimates that the CDBG funding will result in the construction of at least ten ramps Rockford residents. This will supplement other funding, both private and public, that supports the construction of approximately twelve additional ramps outside the corporate City limits of Rockford.
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is a federal program that provides funding to Rockford as a result of being an entitlement community. CDBG funds have multiple eligible uses, but must either benefit low-income persons, eliminate slum or blight or address an urgent need.
