CITY OF ROCKFORD OFFERS NEW COMMUNITY INFORMATION SERVICE

Citizens can stay informed of detours and road closures through text and email

WHAT: The City of Rockford will kick off the construction season at the West State Street
ARRA Resurfacing project with the announcement that they will utilize a new communications service that allows city staff to send important, valuable community
information directly to residents using the latest text, email, and internet technology.

Nixle Community Information Service will allow the City of Rockford to create and publish messages to be delivered to residents instantly via cell phone text message and/or email. Residents must register for the service at www.nixle.com

ABOUT THE WEST STATE STREET ARRA PROJECT: The West State St. project will run from Church St. to Kilburn Ave. The length of road is approximately 0.4 miles long and is 41’ pavement width wide. This portion of road sees an Average Daily Traffic (ADT) of 4,950 to 6000 vehicles per day, 3.7% of which is truck traffic. The project
consists of milling existing bituminous pavement between
existing curb and gutter, pavement patching, ADA ramp/sidewalk improvements and resurfacing with Hot-Mix Asphalt. The project is part of a combined package of other roads being completed this season which include Alpine Road (Rural St. –Morsay Dr.), West State Street, and Central Avenue (Morgan St. – Ogilby Ave.). American
Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) funds are paying $1,290, 143 and the City is paying for $99, 597 for the project package.
