Narrative:
Thousand Oaks Police Department detectives arrested two juveniles for three separate residential burglaries in Newbury Park.
Three homes had been burglarized during a three-week period in Newbury Park. A handgun, miscellaneous jewelry, US currency and electronic equipment were stolen during the burglaries.
Through the investigation, detectives developed information about two juveniles who were possibly involved in the burglaries. A search of the juveniles’ homes revealed some of the property, which had been stolen during the burglaries, that included a handgun, ammunition, and sentimental jewelry, including a deceased father’s wedding ring. Both juveniles were arrested for three counts of residential burglary and released to their parents.
During the interviews of the suspects, they explained how they targeted houses where no one appeared to be home. They would knock on the front door, and when they did not receive an answer, they would go into the backyard and enter the residence through an unlocked door or window.
Investigators would like to remind residents to lock and secure all doors and windows to their houses to avoid being victims of this type of criminal activity. Please report any suspicious activity to the Police Department.
