Alert

Modesto Police are investigating a double homicide. Large perimeter has been set after shots were fired at officers.

At about midnight officers were dispatched to a drive-by shooting in the 2600 block of Maxine Drive. At least two people are dead.

As officers were responding to the area they spotted a possible suspect vehicle near Floyd Avenue in the Village One area of Modesto. A pursuit ensued and gunshots were fired from the car at the pursuing officer. The officer was not injured.

The suspect vehicle stopped in the residential neighborhood west of Roselle and south of Floyd Avenue. One person was taken into custody, but as many as four others fled.

Many of the law enforcement agencies in Stanislaus County are assisting with a large perimeter bordered by Lincoln Oak, Floyd, Roselle, and Merle. Residents are asked to stay inside with their doors locked unless otherwise instructed by a police officer. They are asked to call 911 immediately if they see or hear anything suspicious.
