SAN MATEO POLICE DEPARTMENT

ASSAULT INVESTIGATION – FIREARM DISCHARGE

May 20, 2010 2:20pm –

SMPD Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Norton Street on a report of a possible firearm discharge. SMPD Detectives were on duty and also responded to the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that a shot was fired, however there were no injuries from the discharge. There was an assault victim at the scene that was transported to the hospital. The extent of the assault victim’s injuries are not known, but are believed at this time not to be life-threatening. It appears that robbery may have been a motive, and that the victim in this case was specifically targeted. No arrests have been made, but SMPD Detectives and Patrol personnel are pursuing leads, and will continue to relentlessly pursue this case until it is resolved, and the appropriate suspects are held accountable for this violent crime.

Again, this was an isolated incident, and does not appear to have been a random act. The San Mateo Police Department is asking for the community's assistance with any information that may be pertinent to this case. Please note the following phone numbers:

• San Mateo Police Dispatch - 650.522.7700
• San Mateo Police Investigations - 650.522.7650
• SMPD Secret Witness Line - 650.522.7676

** This investigation is ongoing and no other information specific to the investigation is currently being released. **
