HOLLISTER POLICE SEEK FORMER DEPUTY SHERIFF 
HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – May 17, 2010 – On May 14, 2010 at
approximately 7:00 a.m. Hollister Police officers went to a residence in
the unincorporated area of San Juan Bautista to serve both a search
warrant and a felony arrest warrant in conjunction with a fraud
investigation involving former San Benito County Deputy Sheriff Jason
Lei.
Lei is alleged to have embezzled funds from the San Benito County
Deputy Sheriffs Association while serving as the association’s treasurer.
The alleged acts occurred in Hollister, San Juan Bautista and
unincorporated San Benito County. To avoid a conflict of interest, the
San Benito County Sheriff’s Office requested the Hollister Police
Department conduct the entire investigation.
Lei was not located during the search of the residence. However investigators did find evidence of the crime and Lei’s personal property, including his vehicle.
Hollister police are looking for Lei to serve the arrest warrant, charging him with embezzlement and unauthorized use of an access card. Bail has been set at $10,000.
Lei is a former law enforcement officer and it is unknown whether or not he is armed. Anyone withinformation regarding the whereabouts of Jason Lei is requested to contact Detective Sergeant George Ramirez at 636-4330.
