An officer spotted a car driving recklessly in a southwest Modesto neighborhood. Driver arrested an hour later. 
RECKLESS DRIVER IN STOLEN VEHICLE ARRESTED
Modesto, CA – An officer spotted a car driving recklessly in a southwest Modesto neighborhood. The teen driver spotted police and he crashed as he fled. He was arrested after an hour-long search.
At about 12:20 PM a Modesto police officer spotted a brown Honda Accord several blocks away doing donuts at the intersection of California and Madison Avenues. The driver fled as he spotted the officer approaching.
The officer saw a cloud of dust in an alley heading westbound, just south of California Avenue and west of Madison Avenue. He found the brown Honda Accord abandoned after an apparent collision where the alley met Martin Luther King Avenue. Witnesses directed officers east of the collision scene where the driver was last seen running. The Honda was reported stolen from the Hayward area earlier in the day. The occupant of the other vehicle involved in the collision suffered minor injuries in the collision.
An hour-long search netted the suspected driver, 18-year-old Javier Cabrera Huitron of Hayward. Police received a tip from a citizen directing them to a nearby alley-facing duplex in the 200 block of Ruberto Street. The suspect was found in the duplex, believed to belong to a family member of Huitron. A 17-year-old girl was arrested for harboring a known fugitive; a felony.
Huitron was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and hit and run causing injury; all felonies.
