UNITED STATES CENSUS BUREAU WORKERS TO BEGIN DOOR-TO-DOOR VISITS ROCKFORD – Beginning next week and continuing throughout the summer, United States Census Bureau workers will be going door-to-door to visit with households that did not return their 2010 Census forms by mail as part of their Non-Response Follow- Up program. The City of Rockford and its community partners encourage everyone in Rockford to participate, as more benefits and political representation can come back to Rockford when our official Census population is higher. In addition to door-to-door operations, Census workers could also call households in case the answers on Census forms are unclear. The 2010 census does not ask for: social security number, bank account number, credit card number, donations, or citizenship status. In the case of visits in person, Census workers are required to show their ID. An image of the official Census Worker identification is attached in a flyer with this release. “Our Census participation rate in Rockford is already higher than it was in the last Census in 2000”, says City of Rockford planner Jonah. “However, some of the neighborhoods that were undercounted last time are having the same problems in 2010. We’re asking Rockford residents to please cooperate with Census workers when the visit homes across the City, and to report any suspicious activities, such as Census workers without identification, to the Rockford Police.”

From Mid-April through Mid- August Census Takers will be visiting households who have not turned in Census forms. If you would like to order a form or take the survey over the phone, please call 1-866-872- 6868 OFFICIAL CENSUS IDENTIFICATION This official Census Badge will be worn by all Census Takers going door-to-door to follow-up with people who haven’t turned their forms in. If someone does NOT have a badge when asking you for personal information, call the Police.
