Huntington Beach Police Department and Golden West College Host Self Defense and Awareness Training “Just Yell Fire” in Response to Sexual Assault Incident
1. Session for Golden West College Thursday, April 22 at 1:00 pm. At Golden West College (Math/Science Bldg. Room 123) 15744 Golden West College, Huntington Beach, CA, 92647
2. Session for Huntington Beach Police Department Thursday, April 22 at 7:00 pm. At Huntington Beach Civic Center 2000 Main Street, Council Chambers (Bottom of the bowl area enter the glass doors) Huntington Beach, CA 92648
In response to a recent kidnapping and rape on the Golden West College campus and dangers that everyone may face anywhere, the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) is partnering with Golden West College (GWC) to bring a self defense program to the community on April 22. The statistics are frightening: 1 in 4 young women will be the victims of sexual assault according the YWCA figures and there are 114,000 attempted non family abductions each year in the U.S. Just Yell Fire, a street fighting self defense program that can be learned in about two hours, has grown from a local community service project in Washington State into a 48 country Million Girl Revolution against predators and sexual assault.
This program has three parts:
1. Raise awareness of specific dangers e.g. ATMs, dating violence, jogging in remote areas…and how these dangers can be avoided.
2. A Dating Bill of Rights to let everyone know they have the right to fight back; a shocking number don’t realize they have that right until it is too late.
3. Learn 10 simple defensive techniques that may help you from becoming a victim
Huntington Beach Police Department and Golden West College want to bring awareness and education to as many people as possible about the importance of taking action to be pro-active against crime.
