Sikeston man arrested regarding June 24 bomb threat to the court

BENTON, MISSOURI - Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said today that a Sikeston man is in custody after making a bomb threat.
William C. Scott Jr. (39) Sikeston is being held in the Scott County Jail on a federal indictment charging him with making a false bomb threat. Scott is also being held on (3) counts of felony non-support with a $5,000 bond on each count.
Walter said the Scott County Circuit Court, Division 5, received a telephone bomb threat during court on June 24, 2009. The bomb threat caused alarm to persons in court as well as employees, it was a major disruption. The Judicial Building and the Sheriff’s Office had to be evacuated for several hours allowing authorities to search the area. Walter said court had to be moved to a different building.
Sheriff’s Investigators working with AT&T were able to determine the phone number used in making the call. The phone number and a review of surveillance camera footage lead to William Scott Jr. as a suspect.
Walter said William Scott Jr. was arrested Wednesday and remains in the Scott County Jail.
