BLRPD Investigates Animal Cruelty/Animal Abandonment Case
The Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department, under the direction of Chief of Police Michael Weiser, is currently investigating an animal incident that occurred on Oak Lane (located south of Tilghman Street, behind Bennett Jaguar) in Upper Macungie Township. On Thursday April 1st, at around 3:15 pm, police were called to the area when a passerby noticed a small blue kennel-type dog carrier on the side of Oak Lane. The passerby looked inside the kennel and found 2 small dogs locked inside. The dogs were described as small (probably puppies) with orange, fox-like fur. It is believed that the dogs may be a husky or akita mix. The passerby then took one of the animals for medical treatment. When police arrived, they found the other dog was deceased. The deceased animal did not appear that it died of physical injuries, however, it is unknown how long the two dogs had been in the kennel. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save its life, the first dog also died.
A picture of the kennel has been included with this release. Copies of the photo can be requested by emailing [email protected]. The Berks-Lehigh Regional Police are asking that anyone who may have information regarding the owner of these animals please contact Investigator Peter Nickischer at 610-683-8740 ext. 225. Thank you. ###
