Advisory

A RED FLAG WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR COLUMBIANA COUNTY UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING.

325 PM EDT SAT APR 3 2010

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PITTSBURGH HAS ISSUED A RED FLAG WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING. THE FIRE WEATHER WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH...WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP TODAY AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT THAT WILL PASS THROUGH THE AREA THIS EVENING. THE COMBINATION OF GUSTY WINDS AND RELATIVE HUMIDITY LEVELS HAVING DROPPED BELOW 30 PERCENT...HAD MADE OPEN BURNING DANGEROUS. CONDITIONS WILL IMPROVE ONCE THE FRONT PASSES IN THE EVENING...WITH ITS
ASSOCIATED CLOUDS AND FALLING TEMPERATURES.

OPEN BURNING OF ANY TYPE IS CONSIDERED VERY HAZARDOUS AT THIS TIME. ACCIDENTAL ESCAPED DEBRIS BURNS ARE THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF WILDFIRES. ALSO...BE CAREFUL WITH HEAT AND SPARKS WHILE OPERATING ANY EQUIPMENT...OR SMOKING IN WILD LAND AREAS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW...OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS...LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY...AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL CREATE EXPLOSIVE FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL.
