Joshua Tree, CA – Relay for Life Morongo needs teams to come forward and join the fight against cancer. Supporting the American Cancer Society’s services through pledges made to Relay for Life, the event is April 24 and 25 at Yucca Valley High School’s Trojan Field, from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m.

“We still need 16 teams to make our goal,” says Event Chairperson Melynie Schiel, who adds that it is her personal goal to have as many participants in the relay as possible this year. “What if a life is saved because someone on the track gets a reminder for early detection screening? What if a newly diagnosed survivor is comforted by the love and support of those who have faced the disease? There are so many ways to participate, and it all begins with our teams.”

Individuals who would like to participate, but who are not on a team, are invited to logon to to join a team; or call Paul Hoffman at 760/365-1643. The goal of this year’s event is to have 50 teams and raise $140,000. Along with information booths, there will be entertainment, food and refreshments, ceremonies and activities for children. The public is encouraged to attend the event.

Relay for Life is a community gathering where everyone can participate in the fight against cancer. Teams camp out and take turns walking the track. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event, because cancer never sleeps. Nationally, the events bring millions of people together to raise money to help prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering.
