The Census Bureau is warning that scammers are falsely representing themselves as employees of their organization and are reportedly calling people and asking them general information about the census and whether or not they’ve returned their completed forms. During the course of these conversations they are also asking for the individual’s social security number.

The Census Bureau does not ask for that information on the census forms, and they are not calling anyone for this information.

Please be aware of this phone scam and do not provide any unknown entity with any personal information. If you receive a suspicious phone call, please gather as much information as possible and contact the police department.
