FORT BEND COUNTY, TX- Fort Bend County Officials are preparing for the fourth annual Emergency Preparedness Workshop held on Saturday, May 8th, from 9 AM to 4 PM, at the Stafford Center at 10505 Cash Road, Stafford, Texas 77477. Citizens of Fort Bend County and surrounding areas are invited to renew their preparation and readiness activities for this year’s fast approaching Hurricane season.

In an effort to encourage people to attend, the event will be held on a Saturday unlike the workshops held in previous years. There will be displays, speakers, information handouts, and booths representing social service agencies, Red Cross, United Way, US Coast Guard, fire and police organizations, and local hospitals to name a few. The front parking lot will showcase emergency vehicles such as fire apparatus, ambulances, emergency communication vehicles, a helicopter, and Red Cross equipment for citizens to view.

Featured Presenters include Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas of Galveston, Gene Norman of Channel 11 Weather, Texas Department of Insurance, Fort Bend County Health and Human Services, Texas Department of Public Safety, Center Point Energy and many others.

Fort Bend County Senior Planning Coordinator and Chairman of the Planning Committee, Janette Walker stated, "This year's event is sponsored by numerous agencies in the county including all of the cities, Local Emergency Planning Committee, and Agri-Life Extension Service. I have witnessed this event improve and grow every year as community participation continues to increase. Emergency Managers and Officials encourage all citizens to “Save the Date” and come to the Workshop to enjoy a day of learning."
