Advisory

Chula Vista Police Chief Rick Emerson has resigned effective immediately Chula Vista Police Dept. - 07/23/09

Richard Emerson has been the Chief of the Chula Vista Police Department for the past 18 years and President of the San Diego County Police Chief's and Sheriffs Association for the past 14 years. Chief Emerson officially retired from the department on May 26, 2009, but agreed to stay on and continue running the organization until a new Chief is named. Chief Emerson came to the CVPD after a 23 year career with the Pasadena Police Department.

"I have resigned over a disagreement with City Manager Jim Sandoval concerning 9 promotions that I made this past month. These were made because of organizational and operational needs and were budgeted positions. The process was known to all and conducted in accordance with the civil service process. When I was ordered to pull back the promotions I refused. The people who were promoted went through a legitimate process and don't deserve to have those promotions taken away."

Chief Emerson is confident that residents, business owners and visitors will continue to receive the same professional level of service they are accustomed to from the Chula Vista Police Department, an organization that he is proud to have led for nearly two decades.
