Recently Sheriff Maurer met with Superintendants for the schools in the Tri-County area to discuss the recent implementation of the Owelus anti-bullying program.

For the past seven years Sheriff Maurer has worked closely with our schools to obtain the funding and training needed to implement this program. This program is designed to provide the schools with the tools needed to eliminate the problem of children being bullied by classmates.

The Sheriff traveled to Washington DC and gave testimony to the Congressional and Senate sub committees. During this process Congressman Ralph Regula was successful in securing the funding to make this program a reality.

During this recent meeting the Sheriff gave special recognition to Dr. Gene Linton (Superintendant Tri-County Educational Service Center) Cyndy Rees (State Director at Fight Crime: Invest in Kids) and Judith Kestner ( Grants administrator for Tri-County. Educational Service Center)

Sheriff Maurer stated “I foresee this as one of the greatest crime prevention tools ever. Though this program it is my hope that we build more considerate children thus making better citizens for our communities as they move to adulthood”
