DOUBLE HOMICIDE SHOOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED

Modesto, CA – Three people were shot in southwest Modesto early Monday morning. Two have died and a third is in serious condition. Detectives have arrested the man they believe is responsible for the shooting.

Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of Radley Place at about 5:20 a.m. after receiving several reports of shots fired. When officers arrived at the property they found two adult victims; a man and a woman, both in their 20’s. Both were pronounced dead a short time later. A third victim, a man, also in his 20’s, was found two blocks north of the home on Hammond Street. He remains hospitalized in serious condition. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police took one man into custody at a nearby home shortly after they arrived at the scene. After a lengthy investigation the man was arrested and he has been identified as 25-year-old Atwater resident Tou Vang Xiong. He will be booked at the Stanislaus county jail for two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of use of a firearm while in commission of a homicide.

Detectives do not believe this was a random incident and are investigating the possibility that the suspects and the victim knew each other.

The investigation is on-going and police will not comment on a possible motive or evidence collected at the scene. Notification of next-of-kin is under way; therefore the names of the two deceased victims will not be released at this time. Any relationship between the victims and the suspect remains under investigation.

The suspect has not yet been booked. A booking photograph will not be released at this time because it could influence additional witnesses in this case. The release of the photograph will be re-evaluated tomorrow.
