***Tsunami Warning for the City of Sausalito, Saturday, February 27, 2010 at approx 1:30 PM***

The City of Sausalito has been advised by the National Weather Service that a Tsunami or seismic sea wave that was generated by the recent 8.8 earthquake in Chile may strike our coastal areas.

There is no way to determine in advance exactly the size of Tsunamis. However the National Weather Service believes that the Tsunami will occur at approximately 1:30 PM on Saturday, February 27, 2010 and that the wave height will be approximately 2 to 2 ½ feet high in excess of existing tidal levels. In addition to the Tsunami wave, high tide is reported to occur today at approximately 10:00 AM and be at 6.6 feet. High tide at 1:30 PM is estimated to be at approximately 3 feet.

The public is warned to stay away from the beaches and other coastal areas and harbors/marinas should take appropriate precautions to safeguard their residents and property. Tsunami’s are often a series of waves and they move much faster than a person can run, so do not go to the beach or other coastal areas to watch for the Tsunami or enter the water to swim or go boating. The tidal surge is expected to be at the mouth of the Golden Gate Bridge. No flooding is expected at this time in Sausalito, however strong tides are anticipated.

Please check on your neighbors to make sure that they have received this warning.
