Arrest Report for February 24th, 2010

· Arturo Deas, 38, of Newark was arrested at 3:33 PM on February 24 for shoplifting. Deas entered Seabra’s Supermarket at 1132 Liberty Avenue. While inside he concealed 9 cans of Similac formula worth $142.11. He then attempted to leave the store, but was stopped by store personnel. Upon police arrival Deas was arrested and the stolen items returned to Seabra’s Supermarket.

· On February 24 at 8:40 PM a man was walking home in the area of 580 Leo Street when he was approached by a subject who brandished a black handgun, pointed it at him, and said, “Give me your cell phone.” The victim refused, ran into a driveway, and called police. Police are looking for a light skinned Hispanic male , 5’9” tall, weighing about 170lbs. The suspect was wearing a black puffy vest, gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a blue knitted hat (skull cap). He also had a 3” long beard and may be from Irvington. Anyone with information is asked to call the Hillside police detective bureau at 973-926-5800.

· Markony S. Monteiro, 18, of Hillside was arrested for possession of marijuana on February 24 at 11:04 PM. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop of Monteiro’s silver 2002 Mitsubishi Galant at the intersection of N. Broad Street and Central Avenue. A brief investigation resulted in officers confiscating a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana from Monteiro. He was transported to Hillside police headquarters where he was charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and released on his own recognizance.
