Welcome to Playful City, USA!

The City of Arlington unveiled new signage that welcomes families and youth to Playful City, USA.

The announcement was made Monday from the site of a summer day camp for Arlington youth. Mayor Robert Cluck was joined by city staff and Arlington Parks Board members to celebrate the national designation, which is a repeat honor for Arlington.

According to KaBoom!, the national nonprofit sponsoring organization, 93 U.S. communities were bestowed the honor this year. Other Texas cities include Grand Prairie, Euless, San Antonio, Killeen and Corpus Christi.

Later today, Playful City USA video bulletin boards will go up along I-20, I-30, SH 360 and US 287.

Mayor Cluck said strong programs like Naturally Fun Neighborhoods and the No Child Left Inside campaign are investments in Arlington youth and families.

“Together, we’re working to promote the idea that it's best for kids to be outside and to be active,” Cluck said. “It’s been proven that children who play outside are mentally and physically happy. I am pleased to congratulate our Parks and Recreation Department on this honor.”
