The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) is investigating the cause of a fatal crash on I-43 northbound that resulted in the death of one driver and the arrest of another.
On Monday, September 21, 2026, officers were dispatched shortly after 5:30 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash on the interstate near STH 54/57 involving a pickup truck that rear-ended a sedan.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department (GBMFD) responded to assist GBPD. Upon arrival, fire crews provided immediate lifesaving measures and vehicle extrication for the driver of the sedan, a 55-year-old Sheboygan man. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the pickup truck, a 29-year-old Green Bay man, was arrested on a felony charge of Operating While Suspended Causing Death.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The temporary closure of I-43 northbound has been lifted.
The Green Bay Police Department would like to recognize the GBMFD for its assistance in assessing fire, electrical, and flammable-material hazards and establishing safety measures for all responders.
The GBMFD Drone Unit also assisted with scene photography.
