Sheriff Clint Roach reports that on 9/9/2026 at 4:35 P.m. his deputies responded to a single vehicle fatal crash near the intersection of Garrett Rd and M 152 in Silver Creek Township.
The investigation shows that Brett Daniel Underwood, 50-years-old from Dowagiac, was westbound on Garrett Rd from M 152 when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Underwood was ejected. He was deceased at the scene of the crash. Deputies believe alcohol and speed were factors in this crash. Underwood was not wearing his seatbelt.
Sister Lakes Fire Department, Dowagiac City Fire Department, SMCAS Ambulance, True’s Towing, and the Cass County Animal Control assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene of the crash.
This incident remains under investigation.
