Deputies Investigating Train Theft Locate $150,000 in New Balance Shoes; One Suspect Arrested

VICTIM(S): Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad
SUMMARY:
On Monday, August 24, 2026, at about 7:04 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department - Barstow Station responded to a call of subjects breaking into BNSF train boxcars. While enroute to the location, deputies observed one of vehicles matching the description of the suspect vehicles traveling westbound on Interstate 40. When the deputies conducted a traffic stop, the suspect jumped out of the vehicle and after a foot pursuit, deputies apprehended the suspect.
BNSF Police confirmed the items in the suspect vehicle was from the train boxcar and contained over $150,000 of New Balance shoes.
