On August 22, 2026, at 6:32 p.m. Deputy Eric Powell conducted a traffic stop on Gach Road after observing a Black 2006 Nissan Sentra speeding on US 41 near the Kings Mine Exit. Upon stopping and approaching the vehicle Deputy Powell detected multiple clues that the driver 18-year-old Alex Castro of Evansville might be under the influence. At that point Deputy Powell began a roadside OWI investigation. Once the inquiry was completed Deputy Powell placed Mr. Castro into custody and transported him to the Gibson County Detention Center where he was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Paraphernalia.
