On June 13, 2026, at 2:44 a.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a 911 report of an accident with injuries in the 400 block of East Cherry Street in Oakland City. The reporting party advised Communications Officers that a White SUV had struck multiple parked vehicles and appeared intoxicated. Deputies Michael Bates and Levi Sims were dispatched to the scene and upon arriving on scene they located a White 2021 Kia Sportage sideways in the roadway and three other damaged vehicles nearby. At that point Deputy Michael Bates approached the driver of the Kia and observed obvious signs of intoxication coming from the driver 24-year-old Spencer Cannon of Winslow. Deputy Bates then began a roadside OWI investigation while Deputy Sims investigated the automobile accident. Once the investigations were completed Mr. Cannon was taken into custody and transported to the Gibson County Detention Center where he was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.
