SVPD Arrests Two Suspects Following Facebook Marketplace Robbery

On June 10th, 2026, at approximately 8:04 PM , officers from the Simi Valley Police Department responded to a Robbery that had just occurred in the 1500 block of Emeric Avenue.

The victim had arranged to sell a watch through Facebook Marketplace and met with an individual posing as a prospective buyer. During the transaction, the suspect forcibly took possession of the watch and fled to a waiting vehicle driven by a second suspect.

The victim provided dispatch and responding officers with a suspect description, a vehicle description, and a partial license plate. Utilizing this information, patrol officers quickly located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop near Topanga Canyon Boulevard and the 118 Freeway.

The victim positively identified the primary suspect, and the stolen watch was recovered and returned.

Mathiew Garcia, 18 years old, from Los Angeles, was arrested for 211 PC/Robbery and 182(a)(1) PC/Conspiracy. Khamari Garnett, 18 years old, from Los Angeles, was arrested for 182(a)(1) PC/Conspiracy. Both suspects were booked into the Ventura County Main Jail.

The Simi Valley Police Department reminds community members using online marketplaces to take precautions when meeting with unknown buyers or sellers. Whenever possible, transactions should be conducted in well-lit public locations and during daylight hours.
