Central Station Deputies Assist BNSF Railroad Police in Cargo Theft Investigation; Two Suspects Arrested

LOCATION: Glen Helen Parkway / Cajon Boulevard, Devore
SUSPECT (1): Fernando Barrza, 19-year-old male, Transient of San Bernardino
SUSPECT (2): Rodrigo Luna Arredondo, 32-year-old male, Transient of San Bernardino
SUSPECT (3) Hispanic Male Adult, Pending Identification
VICTIM(S): Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, deputies from the Central Station responded to assist BNSF Railroad Police, for a report of 15 subjects riding on a train. The incident location is a high crime area for train cargo theft. Upon arrival, a vehicle drove past deputies at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated but the vehicle failed to yield. The driver of the vehicle eventually pulled over and approximately 10 subjects fled from the vehicle on foot.
Fernando Barrza was detained by the vehicle without incident, while others ran across the I-215 freeway and the surrounding areas. Deputies pursued Rodrigo Luna Arredondo on foot, who was caught and taken into custody. A third hispanic male adult, was struck by a vehicle while running across the freeway. Medical personnel responded and transported the subject to a local hospital where he is being treated for his injuries and is in stable condition.
Stolen cargo items from the train were located inside of the vehicle. The Sheriff's Departments Rural Crimes Task Force responded to the scene and completed that portion of the investigation.
Barrza was arrested and booked at the Central Detention Center for PC 496(a) – Possession of Stolen Property and PC 182(a)(1) – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime. Luna Arredondo was arrested and booked at West Valley Detention Center PC 496(a) – Possession of Stolen Property and PC 182(a)(1) – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.
