Work Begins on Construction of Bioswale at the “Preserved Open-Space” - Davis Smith Property (Springhouse Rd)

South Whitehall Township proudly announces the installation of its first-ever bioswale at the location of the “Preserved Open-Space” - Davis-Smith Property, which is adjacent to Springhouse Road. This work is being conducted by the Public Works Department, and is funded through the Lehigh County Conservation District’s Agriculture Conservation Assistance Program in the amount of $192,950.00.

The installation of the bioswale commenced earlier this week, and is an important project which represents a significant step forward in the Township’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable stormwater management.

As you drive by Springhouse Road during the day, you will see Public Works employees conducting the work to install the bioswale. Please note that this project does not involve any level of development activities and is solely related to stormwater improvements only.

It is designed to help manage flooding and reduce stormwater runoff from the surrounding fields. By naturally capturing, slowing, and filtering rainwater, the bioswale will improve drainage, reduce erosion, and enhance water quality before runoff reaches nearby waterways.

This initiative reflects South Whitehall Township’s proactive approach to protecting open space, preserving natural resources, and implementing green infrastructure solutions that benefit both residents and the environment.
