On Monday, March 2, 2026, at approximately 12:01 a.m., the Rialto Police Department received multiple reports of a vehicle vs pedestrian traffic collision on Foothill Boulevard at Eucalyptus Avenue. Officers from the Patrol and Traffic Bureaus responded to the scene along with personnel from the Rialto Fire Department.
The pedestrian, a 42-year-old male, Fontana resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Rialto Fire Paramedics. The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending coroner and next of kin notification. The driver of the involved vehicle, Paulo Meza, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The Rialto Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded and initiated a comprehensive investigation into the collision. Preliminary information indicates the pedestrian was crossing Foothill Boulevard southbound, outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by Meza’s vehicle. Based on information available at this stage of the investigation, alcohol or drug impairment does not appear to be a contributing factor by Meza.
