DATE/TIME: February 12, 2026, at 8:51 a.m.
INCIDENT: Suspicious Ordnance Safely Removed from Apple Valley Police Station
LOCATION: 14931 Dale Evans Parkway, Apple Valley - Apple Valley Police Station
SUMMARY: A local resident brought what he believed to be Civil War-era cannonballs to the Apple Valley Police Department for evaluation. Upon inspection, personnel determined the items appeared to contain fuses and could potentially be explosive.
Out of an abundance of caution, station personnel immediately implemented safety protocols, contacted the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department - Bombs and Arson Division, and established a safety perimeter around the station. The police station was temporarily closed to the public while the situation was assessed.
Specialists from the Bombs and Arson Division responded promptly and safely took possession of the items for proper disposal. There were no injuries reported, and at no time was there an immediate threat to the public beyond the controlled perimeter.
The Apple Valley Police Department appreciates the community’s cooperation and reminds residents that if a potentially explosive, or military ordnance is discovered, it should not be handled or transported. Instead, individuals should leave the item in place and contact law enforcement immediately.
