The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau is actively investigating a series of homicide cases that occurred within a short time frame and in the same general location, specifically the 1300 block of East 120th Street in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles.
Between October 2025 and January 2026, four homicides occurred in this area and remain under active investigation by the Homicide Bureau. At this time, investigators are working to determine whether these cases are related. One of the victims was Kevin Johnson, a former NFL player who played during the 1990’s. Mr. Johnson was found on January 21, 2026, at a homeless encampment in the area, suffering from blunt force trauma. All four victims were unhoused individuals who were living in encampments in the vicinity of the 1300 block of East 120th Street.
Homicide Bureau investigators have been working closely with personnel from Century Sheriff’s Station and the Operation Safe Streets Bureau in conducting these investigations. In addition, the Department has coordinated with the Community Partnerships Bureau, including the Mental Evaluation Team and the Homeless Outreach Services Team, which work in partnership with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). These teams continue to provide outreach, resources, and services to individuals in the area while investigative efforts remain ongoing.
Homicide investigators continue to pursue all investigative leads and remain committed to identifying the individual or individuals responsible for these crimes. Century Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the 1300 block of E. 120
th Street in unincorporated Los Angeles to assist Los Angeles County Fire with a call of a person down.
Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased male adult in an apparent homeless encampment located adjacent to the flood control channel.
There is no additional information available at this time.

NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are responding to the 1300 block of E. 120th St. (riverbed), of unincorporated Los Angeles regarding a death investigation.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by LA County Fire Department Engine #41, paramedic Quintana.
The investigation is ongoing, and currently there is no additional information.
