UPDATE: Detectives Arrest Estranged Husband in Connection with the Death of Newport Beach Woman

After the victim, Aryan Papoli, was identified, detectives conducted an extensive and persistent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. During the investigation, detectives identified Gordon Abas Goodarzi, the victim’s estranged husband, as a suspect.
After a complete review of the autopsy results the coroner determined the manner of death to be a homicide.
On Friday January 23, 2026, through a continued and diligent investigation, Goodarzi was contacted at his residence and later arrested. Goodarzi was transported to the Central Detention Center and is being held without bail.

SUMMARY: On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 11:42 a.m., deputies from the Twin Peaks Station responded to Highway 138 and Crestline Road for a found deceased person. When deputies arrived, they located the decedent about 75 feet down a steep embankment.
On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at about 11:42 a.m., deputies from the Twin Peaks Station responded to Highway 138 and Crestline Road for a found deceased person. When deputies arrived, they located the decedent about 75 feet down a steep embankment.
The Specialized Investigations Division responded and assisted in the investigation. The San Bernardino County Fire Department also responded and retrieved the female from the side of the mountain before she was transported to the Coroner’s Office.
On Wednesday, November 18, 2025, an autopsy was conducted and injuries consistent with a fall were noted. The death investigation is ongoing, and detectives are working to positively identify the victim. She is described as a White female adult, approximately 25-35 years old who wore blue pants, a blue sweatshirt and white tennis shoes.
