Sheriff Robert G. Luna Announces Increased Reward in the Murder of Raejonette Morgan

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert G. Luna, joined by the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau, held a press conference today to provide an update in the ongoing investigation into the murder of 23-year-old Raejonette Morgan.

Raejonette’s mother, Anginette Morgan; her father, Ricky Morgan; and her brother, Raheem Morgan, were in attendance, along with other close family members and friends. This senseless act of violence has devastated their family and deeply impacted the surrounding community.

In February, 2025, Sheriff Luna and investigators stood before the public to bring attention to Raejonette’s murder and to request the community’s assistance. While detectives received valuable information following that appeal, the investigation remains active, and additional public help is still urgently needed.

Today, Sheriff Luna announced an increase in the reward from $10,000 to $20,000 for information leading to the identification of the suspects responsible for Raejonette Morgan’s murder, as well as the vehicle involved.

“Raejonette Morgan’s life was taken in a deliberate and senseless act of violence, and her family deserves answers,” said Sheriff Robert G. Luna. “We believe someone in the community has information that can help us identify those responsible. This increased reward reflects our continued commitment to seeking justice and holding the suspects accountable.”

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Raejonette Morgan was driving her white Mercedes-Benz southbound on Vermont Avenue from Imperial Highway in South Los Angeles. She stopped at a red light in the right-turn lane at Vermont Avenue, preparing to enter the westbound 105 Freeway.

At that time, a suspect vehicle pulled alongside her car. The occupants opened fire, striking Raejonette’s vehicle more than a dozen times. Her car came to a stop at the busy intersection of Vermont Avenue and the 105 Freeway. Raejonette was struck multiple times in what investigators describe as a deliberate and cold-blooded attack. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries on July 4, 2024.

Investigators have obtained video footage of the suspect vehicle from the night of the murder. The Sheriff’s Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a blue, 2016–2018 Honda Civic two-door coupe equipped with a front spoiler, rear window louvers, custom black rims, and what appears to be a custom exhaust system. This is a distinctive vehicle, and investigators believe someone in the community will recognize it.

Although important information was received after the initial press conference, detectives believe additional details remain unreported. Someone knows who committed this violent act, and law enforcement, alongside Raejonette’s family, is urging anyone with information to come forward no matter how minor it may seem.

Raejonette Morgan was remembered as a kind and compassionate young woman. She shared a close bond with her mother, loved to cook, and was pursuing a degree in criminal justice at Los Angeles City College. She is survived by her mother, Anginette Morgan; her father, Ricky Morgan; and her brothers, Raheem and Raekwon Morgan.

Sheriff Luna also expressed gratitude to Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly Mitchell and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for their continued support and for approving the increased $20,000 reward.
