Distracted Driving: Just as dangerous as DUI.

We want to direct your attention to a new public service project by 11 Alive News called "The Great Hangup", which is geared towards bringing the dangers of distracted driving to light.

11 Alive has setup a new section on their website at http://www.11alive.com/news/hangup/default.aspx that contains some great articles, videos, and links designed to educate the public on these dangers and the Tyrone Police Department fully supports this effort.

According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the University of Utah, "Using a cell phone while driving, whether it’s hand-held or hands-free, delays a driver's reactions as much as having a blood alcohol concentration at the legal limit of .08 percent." Even worse, the group with the highest probability of using a cell phone or texting while driving are also the least experienced - teens.

We urge you to take a look at this information and share it with your teens, family, and friends.

Have a great week and be safe!
