Homicide Investigation Update
Forest City Police Department

As the investigation into this homicide progressed, detectives with the Forest City Police Department met with representatives from District Attorney Bell’s Office and it was determined that sufficient probable cause had been developed to obtain warrants for two individuals connected to the case.

On Monday October 24, 2025, warrants were issued for First-Degree Murder against Jaquavious Antwan Craig, age 26, of Grover, North Carolina, and Quitez Lamare Watkins, age 35, of Lawndale, North Carolina.

Following the issuance of the warrants, detectives contacted the United States Marshals Office and requested their assistance in locating and apprehending both suspects, who had fled the jurisdiction of the Forest City Police Department.

On Monday, November 3, 2025, members of the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, led by the U.S. Marshals Office, took Quitez Watkins into custody without incident. He was transported back to Rutherford County, where he is currently being held without bond pending his first appearance in District Court.

Also on Monday, Jaquavious Craig surrendered himself at the Rutherford County Detention Center. He remains in custody without bond pending his first appearance in District Court.

The investigation remains active, and detectives continue to pursue additional leads. The Forest City Police Department extends its sincere gratitude to all the partnering agencies whose collaboration was critical in bringing this case to this stage. Without the assistance of the Tri-City Violent Crime Task Force, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshals Office, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, and Shelby Police Department, this progress would have taken much longer and delayed closure for the victim’s family.

Anyone with information that may assist in this investigation is urged to contact the Forest City Police Department at 828-248-5555. Information can also be submitted anonymously through Rutherford County Crime Stoppers or via the Forest City Police Department’s mobile application.
