Sheriff's Deputy Dies after Being Shot by Suspect in Rancho Cucamonga

DATE:  October 27, 2025, at 12:37 p.m.

INCIDENT: PC 187 - Murder

LOCATION: 12300 Block of Hollyhock Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, CA

SUSPECT(S): Adult Male

VICTIM(S): Andrew Nunez, 28-years-old, Deputy Sheriff for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department

SUMMARY:
On Monday, October 27, 2025, at about 12:37 p.m., deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Station responded to a residence in the 12300 block of Hollyhock Drive for a man with a gun who was threatening a female.  When deputies arrived, they were immediately fired upon and Andrew Nunez, a deputy sheriff, was struck.  Nunez was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

The suspect fled the location and led deputies, and other allied agencies, on a pursuit eastbound on the 210 Freeway.  The suspect travelled at speeds of more than 150 mph.  An narcotics deputy in an unmarked Sheriff’s Department vehicle conducted a pursuit intervention technique and collided with the suspect on the 210 Freeway at Campus Avenue, terminating the pursuit.  The suspect was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.  He will be booked for murder upon medical clearance.
