Traffic stop leads to arrest of Oakland City man. 
On October 8th, 2025, at approximately 3:10 a.m. Oakland City Police Officer Michael McGregor and Gibson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Bates conducted a traffic stop on a White 1999 Ford Explorer after observing a moving violation near the railroad tracks on Jackson Street in Oakland City. Upon approaching the vehicle officers detected the odor of burnt Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. After a brief drug investigation law enforcement officers released the driver of the Ford Explorer and continued their drug investigation locating a large amount of Methamphetamines near the traffic stop.
Law enforcement officers located the White Ford Explorer near the intersection of Mill and Broadway Street where they continued the drug investigation. At the conclusion of their investigation, they placed 58-year-old Darrell Mitchell of Oakland City into custody and Deputy Bates transported him to the Gibson County Detention Center. Upon arriving at the detention center Mr. Mitchell was charged with Possession of Methamphetamines over 5 grams.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
